In August 2024, Volodymyr Kasyanenko, a Production Specialist at Trostyanets Factory, Mondelez Ukraine won two silver medals (for both the left and right hand) at the World Para-Arm-wrestling Championship held in Chișinău, Moldova. His journey from the factory floor to the global arm-wrestling stage is a testament to his dedication, resilience, and the inclusive culture of Mondelēz International that nurtures individual talents.
Could you share your journey at Mondelēz International and how you’ve grown in your career over the years?
I joined Mondelēz in 2000 as a packaging worker and steadily took on various roles—from machine operator to production intern. About 15 years ago, I transitioned to the tech side of production, where I currently work as a Production Specialist. In this role, I manage databases and reports across platforms like MS excel and Access. This shift was driven by my passion for technology, which MDLZ has continuously supported, offering me opportunities to further develop my IT skills.
As a world-class athlete, how do you balance your career at Mondelēz International with your sporting training?
Balancing both can be challenging. My role at the factory demands 40 hours a week, and then I dedicate two hours of training after work, four days a week. Since there is no arm-wrestling gym in Trostyanets, I built my own at home. MDLZ has been supportive, helping me balance work and sports.
How does your experience as a Paralympic Athlete shape your perspective on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I)?
Being a para-athlete has deepened my appreciation for DE&I, particularly the importance of inclusivity. MDLZ has shown exemplary commitment to creating an environment where everyone can thrive, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds. In my career, I’ve experienced how the company’s DE&I values are put into practice, from helping me transition into a tech role to supporting my athletic ambitions.
How has Mondelēz International supported you both as an athlete and an employee?
The support has been outstanding. During the previous World Para-Arm-wrestling Championship, MDLZ colleagues from Kazakhstan came to support me, which was incredibly heartwarming. The company shows it values employees not just for their work but also for their personal achievements. This makes me feel truly appreciated. 💜
What advice would you give based on your own experience in sports or professional life?
My advice is to never give up and always pursue your passion. There will always be obstacles, but you can overcome them with perseverance and the right support. Be open to learning and growing and seek environments that appreciate your unique contributions.
