From Humble Beginnings to the World's Beloved Brand

In 1824, John Cadbury opened a small grocery shop located on Bull Street, Birmingham. With the help of his sons, Richard and George, the trio created a business that was flourishing by the late 1870s. Since then, Cadbury has journeyed from its humble origins as a small grocery shop, to a factory in a garden and finally to the Cadbury we all know and love today!

The Cadbury family not only created sweet memories for generations but were an inspiration to many.

A Factory in a Garden

In 1879, the Cadbury brothers made the revolutionary decision to move their business to the countryside and set up a factory in Bournville, where our manufacturing plant proudly lives today and is known as the "Home of Cadbury Chocolate".

Bournville transformed into a place where employees could live, work and play.

Generosity, Kindness & Community

Since 1824, Cadbury has gone from a Birmingham-based chocolate shop to a global iconic brand with products sold in over 50 countries! The overarching Cadbury family founding principles of generosity, kindness and community involvement are just as important today as they were 200 years.

Cadbury has been an integral part of British life for two centuries

This year as we celebrate 200 years, we're raising a glass (of milk, of course) to our employees who have been pivotal to Cadbury's success and our loyal consumers.

We're also giving back to our communities by donating £200,000 to Alzheimer's Research UK to support their ongoing work towards finding a cure for dementia.
