Please tell us something about yourself.
I began my career in food manufacturing 15 years ago, assuming leadership positions at the age of 20. Throughout my journey, I have gained experience across various sectors, including soft drinks, bakeries, coffee, and meats. My greatest passion lies in promoting the development and growth of my team, which are the foundations for driving excellence.
My interests include spending time with family, long-distance running, traveling, and DIY projects. I take great pride in being a devoted family man, cherishing my two daughters, Angelina and Olesya, and my Wife, Natalia.
What attracted you to join MDLZ?
My decision to join MDLZ was influenced by its reputation as a globally recognized company, its exceptional leadership, robust profitability, and the nation's favourite iconic brand Cadbury.
What are you responsible for as a Senior Shift Lead, and what makes your role unique?
As a Senior Shift Lead, I’m accountable for all aspects of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale (SQDCM) for OPM operations on shift; this area encompasses the tablet and count lines, which manufacture individual units for Cadbury Roses and Cadbury Heroes tubs and a variation of tablet bars ranging from Caramel, Oreo, Dairy Milk, Nut varieties, etc. An essential aspect of my position involves providing leadership and fostering the growth of individuals, a responsibility in which I take great pride. In my role, it’s key that I adopt a culture of continuous improvement and serve as the primary point of escalation for shifts.
Is this your first time in a “Shift Pattern” job? How did you find this arrangement for you and your family – any pros and cons?
This is not my first time working in a shift pattern. Working shifts have provided me with significant advantages, particularly in terms of family time. Working the four on and four off schedule allows me to allocate specific hours for family activities and to enhance my overall well-being and mental health. The ability to balance my working commitments with my personal life has led to job satisfaction and a more harmonious home environment.
I’d probably say working shifts has made me meticulously plan more around childcare and family commitments and ensure I coordinate more than usual.
As a People Manager, how can you provide the right flexibility to your team members, especially since the core of your jobs needs to be in the plant?
If I don’t have time, I make time for my team! As a Leader on shift, prioritizing the people's agenda is crucial for achieving our objectives. A core responsibility of my position is to provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to my team, both formally and informally. I ensure that I allocate time for this, recognizing that our success relies on our people. It is crucial for me to demonstrate our values and expected behaviours, as these will ultimately shape our organizational culture.
As you build your career further, what advice will you give to people who want to join this industry?
Love the brand that you manufacture! People aspiring to enter the food industry should consider several key factors; it’s essential to understand the diverse roles available in management, operating, planning, quality, and engineering and identify which aligns with their skills and interests. Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and the importance of maintaining high safety standards, quality, and production standards.
Additionally, gaining relevant experience through internships or entry-level positions can provide valuable insights into the industry's demands and dynamics. Networking with professionals in the industry can also offer guidance and potential opportunities.
