OREO offers special-edition ‘pronoun packs’ at World Pride

Monday, July 01, 2019

World Pride was celebrated this past weekend in New York City, marking the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising – the beginning of the modern gay liberation movement in the US – and PrideFest, an annual LGBTQIA+ street fair.

Our Oreo team joined the celebration, partnering with the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) for a grassroots activation, giving away complimentary, special-edition Oreo Pride pronoun packs, pins and stickers celebrating everyone's unique identities. The three pack designs underscored the importance of gender expression and highlighted the pronouns "he/his," "she/hers" and "they/theirs" in support of transgender and non-binary communities.

"The colors on the Oreo Pride Pronoun Packs were inspired by the three colors of the transgender flag – pink, blue and white," said Kamila De Maria, Oreo Brand Manager. "Each pack included varying shades of all three colors, highlighting that gender is a spectrum, and a pattern design that visually represented the journey one takes to discover, embrace and share their identity."

The packs and a selection of Oreo pronoun pins were offered to all who stopped by the Oreo booth, while supplies lasted. Throughout the activation, Oreo encouraged fans to share their pronouns with pride and continue to celebrate inclusion and all forms of identity.

Special thanks to the North America Rainbow Council for their guidance in vetting this idea and helping bring it to life!
