Packaging and Plastics
We are committed to sustainable packaging that protects our products, delights our consumers, and does not harm the environment. To this end, we take a strategic approach focused on driving toward net zero waste packaging through less and better packaging and improved systems, leveraging innovative partnerships to improve recycling globally. Our aim is to play our part in advancing a circular pack economy for packaging that is good for people and the planet.
In 2021, we introduced an enhanced strategic approach to continuously improve our packaging, focused on three key areas: less packaging, better packaging, and improved systems. Our aim is to achieve net zero waste and support the development of a circular pack economy by 2050. Our guiding principle is to make packaging light and right while collaborating, innovating and investing in improved systems to increase recycling globally.
Our strategy relies on all three parts coming together, with less packaging, better packaging and improved systems reinforcing each other for bigger impact.
A sample of highlights on our journey:
- In September 2020 together with twenty-nine major global companies, we have singed a business manifesto calling for an UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution. The manifesto asks governments to negotiate and agree on a new global agreement on plastic pollution, saying “there is no time to waste”. This is the first collective corporate action calling on governments to adopt a treaty on plastic pollution. Learn more: https://lp.panda.org/plastic-pollution-report
- In August 2020 we have joined the U.S. Plastics Pact, committing to meet ambitious circular economy goals by 2025.The U.S. Plastics Pact is led by The Recycling Partnership and World Wildlife Fund in partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
- In March 2020 we joined two leading initiatives focused on tackling plastic waste and pollution. We are a signatory of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment and we are a participant in the New Plastics Economy Initiative, and a member of the UK Plastics Pact. The initiatives share a collective ambition to address plastic waste and pollution at its source, by moving toward a circular economy where plastic stays in the economy and out of the environment. The commitments advance the company’s leadership role in calling for and participating in sector-wide collaboration to identify and scale up innovation, harmonize packaging formats to make recycling easier and improve waste management infrastructure.
