Community Impact

Throughout Mondelēz International, we are deeply committed to doing what’s right for our communities. This is still at the heart of the work undertaken by The Cadbury Foundation since 1935 – partnering with leading charities and community organisations to bring to life the vision of Richard and George Cadbury to create prosperous, enterprising and inclusive communities.

Health for Life

OurHealth for Life ® initiative is an evidence-based, award-winning community impact programme supporting children and adults across Birmingham to live healthier lifestyles by engaging people in growing food, physical activity, healthy eating and cookery. Since 2011 we’ve invested £4.8 million and reached over 73,560 pupils and 168,700 adults working with our delivery partners Services For Education and The Conservation Volunteers (TCV).

    Schools

Health for Life® provides schools with funding, training and resources to develop a school-wide, healthy lifestyle ethos, focusing on physical activity, growing food, healthy eating and cooking skills.  Since 2011, the programme has reached over 210 schools (nursery, primary and secondary) across Birmingham, giving students, teachers, parents and carers wide-ranging opportunities to get involved in practical activities.

“For us, Health for Life is not just a project that’s running for a year and a half, this is the way our school is now. I would say its life changing. For our children the outcomes, the way they are going to think as young adults is really different.”

    Community

Health for Life® supports food growing spaces within the community, whilst also improving participants’ physical and mental health, through physical exercise and group activities outdoors. In addition, the programme provides practical sessions and advice to encourage food growing at home and promote healthier eating.

“The sessions are super fun, friendly and informative.  I would usually hesitate to join a new group due to mobility and mental health issues but every week has been so welcoming and accessible and it’s really benefitted my wellbeing. I’ve loved it!”

    Volunteers

Health for Life® has engaged ongoing volunteer input from Mondelēz International employees at both schools and community sites. Providing wide-ranging support from clearing school grounds to building raised beds, greenhouses and more, over 1260 employees have been involved to date.

"Not only does it feel great to help the wider community and appreciate how fruit and crops are grown locally, but also, taking a break from the normal workday behind our laptops, enhances our mental wellbeing too."

    Awards

Health for Life’s success has been widely recognised over the years and the programme has received both a Food and Drink Federation Health and Wellbeing award and Business in the Community Responsible Business award.  The Health for Life show-garden and separate school ‘mealbarrow’ display also won awards at BBC Gardeners’ World.  Health for Life in schools has featured in the peer reviewed academic journal ‘Health Education Research’ and featured at the ‘International Symposium on Healthy Lifestyles’ in Chicago, USA and Grenada, Spain.

“The Health and Wellbeing Award showcases companies that have made a difference to the nation’s health and have taken steps to tackle obesity. Mondeléz International has had a positive impact on children’s lifestyles in Birmingham. They are an inspiration to other businesses and are a great example of how the food and drink industry promotes healthy lifestyles.”

Making a Difference Where It Counts

One of the great ways our value of ‘Do what’s right’ comes alive is through our people – volunteering their time and skills to help make a positive impact locally in their communities.

    People Passions

We value the causes closest to our people’s hearts and support their fundraising through The Cadbury Foundation ‘cashmatch’ scheme.  Our annual ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ programme enables our people to vote for their charity of choice locally to receive a grant from The Cadbury Foundation.
