MONDELĒZ UK DEMONSTRATES STRONG CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS “SNACKING MADE RIGHT” ESG GOALS

Latest report confirms strong contribution from the UK towards ESG goals

Mondelēz International, Inc. (Nasdaq: MDLZ) has published its 2021 Snacking Made Right Report, demonstrating progress against its short and long-term ESG goals. The report highlights several UK market initiatives that reduce the environmental impact of the business - including reductions in packaging, water usage and greenhouse gas emissions. It also showcases local progress against the company’s health and well-being priorities including the Cadbury plant bar innovation, addition of Grenade to its portfolio and the company’s UK MDLZ Bite podcast to support consumers to find the right balance during the challenges of the pandemic.

2021 progress against the company’s ESG goals include:

Sustainable Ingredients

  • In the UK&I 100% of farmers supplying milk for Cadbury Dairy Milk Milk are tracking their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on farms with plans to reduce them by 10% by 2025
  • Reaching 209,954 Cocoa Life registered farmers (exceeding the 2022 goal of 200,000 program-registered cocoa farmers)
  • 75% of cocoa volume for chocolate brands sourced through Cocoa Life (+7 percentage points since 2020)
  • 91% wheat volume needed for Europe business unit biscuits production grown under Harmony charter (+15 percentage points since 2020)
  • 100% palm oil volume RSPO certified (since 2014) with 99% traceable to mill and 87% forest monitored

Climate & Environment

  • In our Sheffield candy factory, we have saved 5 Olympic swimming pools of water per year
  • 100% renewable electricity in 6 of our UK production sites sites contributing globally to 32% total electricity used in owned operations from renewable energy (+9 percentage points since 2020)
  • 21% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 CO2e emissions (baseline 2018)

Packaging

  • 95% packaging designed to be recyclable (+1 percentage point since 2020) including our move away from polystyrene in Dairylea and Philadelphia into widely recycled PET.
  • On track to use 5% recycled plastic content by 2025 with 0.5% used in 2021 (baseline 2020) Including Cadbury Dairy Milk sharing barsmade in Bournville and Philadelphia tubs in 2022
  • 72,100 metric tonnes of packaging materials eliminated (baseline 2013) Including 6.4 million plastic windows removed from UK Cadbury Easter Inclusion shell eggs

Employee & Community Well-being

Over $50 million in cash and in-kind donations made globally in 2021 including nearly £700k of donations from the UK business – predominantly through The Cadbury Foundation

  • 39% Women in executive leadership1; exceeding goal to double by 2024 (baseline 2018)
  • 5% Black Management representation (U.S.)2; a 60 percent increase year-over-year
  • 61% Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems (CLMRS) in Cocoa Life communities in West Africa (+33 percentage points since 2020)

Snacking Mindfully

  • 17% snacks net revenue from portion control snacks (+1 percentage point since 2020) Including our UK moves to cap our products typically bought by parents for children to under 100 calories and our Cadbury multipacks to 200 calories, removing 12 billion calories from the UK market. In the UK we’ve also reduced our Mini Oreo biscuits packs to 90 calories.
  • 18% of packs feature Snack Mindfully portion icons (+4 percentage points since 2020)
