Our Sustainability Strategy

Sustainability is essential to grow and protect our business. Since our Company’s founding, we have focused on what matters most to our business and where we believe can deliver the most significant impact at scale. We set measurable goals for advancing more sustainable business – for example, by sourcing raw materials more sustainably, reducing the environmental imprint of our operations, and supporting communities where we work and live. Simply put, we believe that more sustainable business is good business. We call this approach “Snacking Made Right".

Our strategic focus areas, goals, and ambitions map to the areas of our business where we are best positioned to drive change, and aligned to our long-term business success. They also support our vision to lead the future of snacking and our aim to reduce our environmental footprint and have a positive lasting impact on people and communities as we continue to grow.

We believe our environmental and social sustainability initiatives are pragmatic, focusing on priority topics that align with our global business strategies and support value creation. Sustainability initiatives at Mondelēz International are incorporated into our day-to-day operations, as appropriate, and aligned with our internal processes and procedures for capital investment and financial return.

Like other investments and strategic actions, our sustainability initiatives are designed to help accelerate growth and competitiveness, in keeping with our core business principles:

Climate

Goal by 2030: 35% end-to-end CO2e emissions reduction (vs. 2018). By 2025: 10% absolute water usage reduction in priority sites (vs. 2018), 15% food waste reduction in internal manufacturing sites (vs. 2018) and 50% food waste reduction from distribution (vs. 2018).

Goal by 2025: 100% cocoa volume for chocolate brands sourced through Cocoa Life (on a mass balance approach). By 2027: 100% cage-free eggs supplied globally (excluding China, Morocco, Russia, Ukraine and Vietnam).

Packaging

Goal by 2025: Aim to reduce virgin plastic by 5% (vs. 2020). Goal by 2030: Aim to reduce virgin rigid plastic by 25% (vs. 2020), 5% recycled plastic content and have approximately 98% or more of our packaging designed to be recyclable.

Goal by 2025: Aim to cover all Cocoa Life communities in West Africa with Child Labor Monitoring & Remediation Systems.
